Maastricht overview

When most people think of Maastricht, they invariably have an image of a staid, boring metropolis full of Eurocrats shuffling about dead streets. However, the real story is that the Netherlands’ southernmost city and capital of Limburg is a fun place that is noted for its caf? culture. The site of the 1992 Treaty of Maastricht that sealed the fate of the EU is one of the oldest and most intricate of Holland’s cities. It boasts city walls and bags of Roman heritage and is great to wander around pedestrianised streets on foot. Maastricht is also noted for its shopping prowess, the best of which is on the west bank of the River Maas, where the most interesting sights are also at.
